This non-invasive current sensor (also known as a "split core current transformer") can be fixed around the power line of an electrical load that will tell you how much current is passing through it. This makes it act like an inductor and respond to the magnetic field around a live conductor. By reading the amount of current being produced by the coil, you can calculate the amount of current going through the conductor.
It is capable of measuring a load of up to 50 amps which makes it ideal for building your own current monitor. utility power or even building a surge current protection device for an AC load
