The G3MB-202P-5VDC solid state relay is an electronic switching device designed to control an AC load from a low-voltage DC control signal. With a nominal 5 V DC input and a load rating of up to 2 A at 240 V AC, it is suitable for PCB-based electronic control, automation and switching applications.
Unlike a conventional electromechanical relay, a solid state relay (SSR) uses semiconductor devices to perform the switching function and contains no mechanically operated contacts. This eliminates contact wear associated with repeated physical switching and also removes the audible clicking normally produced by an electromechanical relay.
The G3MB-202P-5VDC is intended to allow a 5 V DC control circuit to switch a compatible alternating-current load. It can therefore be incorporated into control boards, automation equipment, electronic interfaces and microcontroller-based projects, provided that the control circuitry meets the electrical requirements of the relay input.
The output is rated for a maximum nominal load of 2 A at 240 V AC. This makes the device suitable for switching a range of compatible mains-powered loads. The characteristics of the load must nevertheless be considered carefully, as motors, transformers, lamps and similar equipment can draw an initial inrush current considerably higher than their normal running current.
Its PCB-mount solid state relay format allows the component to be incorporated directly into electronic equipment rather than installed as a separate panel-mounted device. Typical uses include automation boards, electronic controllers, timers, small heating control systems and other circuits requiring a low-voltage control signal to switch an AC load.
A key advantage of a 5 V SSR in repetitive switching applications is the absence of mechanically moving contacts. However, solid state relays behave differently from mechanical relays. The semiconductor output stage has an internal voltage drop while conducting, which results in heat generation and must be considered when designing the circuit.
When operating close to the 2 A rated current, suitable ventilation and thermal management are important. Ambient temperature, load type, inrush current, PCB layout and enclosure conditions can all influence operating temperature. The specified current rating should not be exceeded.
The G3MB-202P 5 V solid state relay can be used in home automation projects, electronic controllers, compatible lighting systems, small resistive heating loads, timers and other control applications where a 5 V DC signal needs to operate an AC-powered circuit.
Appropriate electrical safety precautions are essential because the output side may be connected to mains voltage of up to 240 V AC. Correct PCB clearance and creepage distances, suitable wiring and protection against accidental contact with live parts must be provided. The low-voltage 5 V control input does not make the load side safe to touch.
