External USB-A to Gigabit Ethernet network adapter for adding a wired RJ45 LAN connection to computers without an integrated network port or requiring an additional interface. It connects to the host USB port and to the network through an RJ45 socket.
It supports 10, 100 and 1000 Mbps Ethernet operation in half- and full-duplex modes, subject to the capabilities of the network and connected device. IEEE 802.3x flow control helps regulate full-duplex transmission under congestion.
The host interface is USB 3.2 Gen 1, rated at 5 Gbps, and remains compatible with USB 2.0. The manufacturer specifies a free USB 3.x port for Gigabit use; effective performance also depends on the computer, cabling and the rest of the network.
Gembird may supply this reference with an AX88179 or RTL8153 chipset. A built-in flash drive stores drivers, and the manufacturer provides chipset-specific packages, so the fitted variant should be identified before manual installation or driver updates.
Features include IEEE 802.1p Layer 2 priority encoding, IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging and IEEE 802.3az-2010 Energy Efficient Ethernet. Availability and configuration may depend on the fitted chipset, driver and operating-system options.
The adapter is bus-powered at 5 V DC with a stated maximum current consumption of 100 mA, so no external power supply is required. The USB-A cable is integrated; stated overall dimensions are 226 × 23 × 16 mm and net weight is 30 g.
It is intended for computers running Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11 with a free USB 3.x port. The compact format suits laptops, desktop computers, temporary workstations and maintenance tasks requiring a wired Ethernet connection. On compatible systems, installation may be plug and play or use the built-in or manufacturer-downloaded drivers.
