The ATTEN AT-989D is a 65 W electrostatic discharge (ESD) protected digital soldering station for assembling, repairing and servicing electronic circuit boards and components. This European version operates from a 230 V AC supply and provides an adjustable temperature range of 80 °C to 480 °C.
The LCD shows the set temperature, actual temperature, selected unit and heating power level. Three memory keys allow frequently used working temperatures to be stored and recalled quickly, and the station can display temperatures in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit.
Standby can be set from 1 to 60 minutes. When activated, the station holds the iron at 200 °C and switches the heater off after a further 20 minutes. Disabling standby also disables the automatic heater shut-off. The station also provides temperature locking and calibration adjustment up to ±50 °C.
The four-core heating element operates at low voltage and is isolated from the mains supply. Tip-to-ground impedance is below 2 Ω and tip-to-ground voltage is below 2 mV, making the station suitable for work on electrostatic-discharge-sensitive components. The tip is separate from the heater and uses the interchangeable ATTEN T900 series.
The package includes the main unit, an ATTEN AT-AP-65A soldering iron fitted with a T900-B tip, a separate iron stand with cleaning sponge, a European mains lead and the user manual.
To extend tip life, the manufacturer advises against prolonged operation above 450 °C. Use the station in a well-ventilated area, always return the iron to its stand and allow it to cool completely before replacing the tip or carrying out maintenance.
