Tantalum capacitors (tantalum) are a subtype of electrolytic capacitors. They are made of tantalum metal that acts as an anode, covered by an oxide layer that acts as a dielectric, surrounded by a cathode output. The use of tantalum allows a very thin dielectric layer. This results in a higher capacitance value per unit of volume, higher frequency characteristics compared to many types of capacitors and excellent stability over time.
