This 0.5 + 1 µF dual motor capacitor combines two capacitance values within a single enclosure, making it suitable for motors and electrical equipment requiring two separate capacitor values with a shared common connection. It is designed for AC applications and has a 450 V AC rated voltage, with operation at 50/60 Hz.
Three colour-coded leads are provided for connection. The black lead is the common connection. A capacitance of 0.5 µF is available between the black and white leads, whilst a capacitance of 1 µF is provided between the black and red leads. This arrangement effectively combines two capacitance sections in one compact component, reducing installation space and simplifying wiring in compatible equipment.
The 0.5 µF + 1 µF, 450 V configuration is intended for single-phase motors and other AC equipment whose circuitry specifically requires these capacitance values. Typical applications may include ventilation equipment, small motors and other electromechanical systems, provided the electrical requirements of the original equipment match those of the capacitor.
The specified capacitance tolerance is ±5%. This is an important consideration when selecting the component as a replacement part. Capacitance values, rated voltage and wiring arrangement should all match the requirements of the original circuit; similar physical dimensions alone do not confirm electrical compatibility.
Electrical connection is provided by 110 mm flying leads, allowing the capacitor to be wired directly into the equipment. Correct lead identification must be maintained during installation: black is the common lead, white corresponds to the 0.5 µF section and red corresponds to the 1 µF section.
The capacitor is housed in a compact rectangular plastic enclosure measuring approximately 38 × 20 × 29 mm. Its relatively small size makes it suitable for installation inside motors, electrical enclosures and appliances where space for auxiliary components may be restricted.
The marking 40/85/21 indicates the climatic category stated on the component. The capacitor is also specified for use at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz, allowing it to be employed in compatible AC applications operating at either frequency.
When replacing a 0.5 + 1 µF 450 V dual motor capacitor, the electrical characteristics specified by the equipment manufacturer should be observed. Power must be fully isolated before servicing and the capacitor should be safely discharged, as capacitors can retain electrical charge after the equipment has been disconnected from the mains supply.
